Swimming the English Channel For Parkinson’s Disease

Swimming the English Channel has been compared to climbing Mt. Everest.  Colin Bycroft of Frog Hall, will be part of a four-man team raising funds for the Parkinson’s Disease Society and Cancer Research UK when he attempts hour-long swims in the long 21-mile swim. (more…)

The Michael J. Fox Foundation is at it again, they just don’t know how to stop, and thankfully so.  The MJFF, as I like to call it, has been very active in seeking a cure for the disease, and they have sought different ways to fuel research and specific studies for those cures.  MJFF has partnered with the New York Academy of Sciences will co-host the inaugural Parkinson’s disease Therapeutics Conference on Thursday, October 25, in New York City. Legacy’s Build The World Around Us

louie2.jpg I think a common desire amongst most people is that we are remembered by those who will proceed us.  Forgive me, but this in on my mind as my grandpa has just recently passed away.  My grandpa was adopted and so he never knew his real parents.  My grandpa worked hard his whole life creating a good life for his six children and beautiful wife.  My dad, the second oldest, was given a home, warm bed, and food to eat.  My dad continued to build off of that foundation a legacy for me, he gained an education reaching into the deep halls of schooling and study to earn a PhD.  His diligence has brought him to the highest positions and greatest opportunities and has afforded me the greatest experiences–my grandpa and my dad have created a wonderful legacy for me that I want to live up to and pass on to my own children.  Louie M. Xifaras has also created a legacy.  Louis, despite suffering from Parkinson’s was able to accomplish much in his 69 years. (more…)

Stem Cell Research: Morales Side-stepped?

For many people the morales run very deep when it come to stem cell research.  Stem cell research has been touted the next revolution in the medical world, many claim that it’s curing capacity runs deep through the medical world, it even possibly cure Parkinson’s.  Regardless of it’s hype it hasn’t lifted off as it possibly could because many people oppose it.  Stem cell research is opposed because it often involves growing a human embryo and then destroying it for its stem cells.  Is there a possible way around this dilemma? A recent study indicates that no only are dopamine neurons lost, but norepinephrine neurons as well.  Originally it was thought that tremors and involuntary movement occurred when 80% of dopamine neurons, a neurotransmitter for coordinating movement, were lost. (more…)
